28th January 2024
Unfortunately the North East Dev Community event last week was cancelled due to weather and illness so I'll need to wait to deliver my Take a Note of XAML with .NET 8 talk.
However, hopefully I will be delivering an extended version at DDD North which will go into detail a bit more about Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows App SDK
and .NET MAUI. I'm looking forward to delivering my first in-person talk of the year at North East Dev Community when I get the chance.
Last week it was the first Silicon Mingle of the year at the Town Wall pub in Newcastle upon Tyne and I was there along with many others. It was fantastic to speak to many people
there who shared the same interests as well as doing things I was really interested in too. Silicon Mingle is a really great event and can see many great things coming from going
along there and am really looking forward to going along to the next one.
Next week will be another Tutorial Tuesday for tutorialr.com and will have a few more User Controls for
Windows App SDK including a Ruler Control which could be used for on-screen measurements along with a Segment Control which is a seven-segment display,
Matrix Control which is a dot-matrix style display and Split Control like those flipping clocks all of which can show the current date and / or time. There will be two
more sets of Tutorials coming before there will be a break to allow for some new features to be added to Windows App SDK that an upcoming tutorial will be able to take advantage of!
RoguePlanetoid Weekly Update #40
21st January 2024
This week I've completed the demo and slides for my **Take a Note of XAML with .NET 8** talk for North East Dev Community
which will be my first talk of 2024. It has been interesting to put together including another opportunity to again show off Windows Presentation Foundation
along with Windows App SDK. I've also put together my very first example of .NET MAUI for the demo and will be something I'll hopefully do more with this year.
This week I've also been working on an upcoming project that I'm looking forward to doing this year and will be sharing details of in the next few weeks, it will be something
different but will also include something I've done before but it should be interesting and a new challenge but I'm getting ready for it and will say more when I can!
Next week I'm at a couple of events including North East Dev Community where I'll be joining Andrew Buckingham talking about the new features of .NET 8
and C# 12 along with a chance to chat with those there so am really looking forward to that one! Silicon Mingle is holding an event this week and I'll
be going along to that too, it was great to attend my very first one near the end of last year so am looking forward to going to my first one this year and hopefully
many more after that!

RoguePlanetoid Weekly Update #39
14th January 2024
This week I've been working on the demo for the North East Dev Community Event
where I'll be doing a short talk, Take a Note of XAML with .NET 8, where I'll talk about using XAML with .NET 8. This includes my first time using .NET MAUI
to create a small application along with showing the same application created using Windows Presentation Foundation and Windows App SDK. I'll also be putting together the
slides for the talk this coming week so am looking forward to that and will also be putting together an extended version of the talk for DDD North which I will submitting this week
and hopefully present there in March should the talk be selected.
This week I've also put together another four Windows App SDK Tutorials on tutorialr.com which will be for a
Carousel Control and Dial Control along with a couple of user controls that will be useful when creating games with Windows App SDK which is a Directional Pad
or Dipad Control and a Directional Stick or Stick Control. It has been great to put together some new tutorials to add to those that I had created last year and am hoping some
new features I've been wanting will be coming soon to Windows App SDK so I can take advantage of that in a future tutorial.
Next week along will be working on a few things in preparation for some things later in the year, so looking forward to doing that, got a lot of things to do this year which I
hope will be above and beyond what I did last year. I'm also planning on performing an updated versions of some of my talks in the past and bringing them to new audiences so if
you know of any events near you that focus on .NET then let me know!
RoguePlanetoid Weekly Update #38
7th January 2024
It is a new year and a new start and a new day for the RoguePlanetoid Weekly Update! There hasn't been one for a couple of months but aim to publish a weekly update every
Sunday throughout 2024. Firstly, it was great to publish the first RoguePlanetoid Podcast episode of 2024 with an Overview of 2023,
last year was the busiest year ever and already have a feeling that this year will be even busier and appreciate every person who has either read these Posts or
Articles on the website or has listened to the Podcast.
Secondly, this week saw the first Tutorial Tuesday for tutorialr.com with two brand-new
Windows App SDK Tutorials for a Gauge Control and Clock Control,
every two weeks from now on I will be posting four brand-new tutorials including user controls and customised versions of existing controls for Windows App SDK.
The aim is to get to one hundred tutorials by the end of the year, some of which rely on some up-coming features so may need to take a break to make sure can use
those features when they're available.
Finally, I'll be doing a talk for the North East Dev Community Meetup where I'll be talking about ways you can use XAML with .NET including .NET MAUI, Windows App SDK and Windows Presentation Foundation
with my talk "Take a note of XAML with .NET 8", I'm looking forward to delivering my first in-person talk of the year, and was a great excuse to try something with .NET MAUI for the
first time. In putting together that demo I've realised some new tutorials on .NET MAUI would be useful so may work on that later this year! Otherwise, I'm looking forward to
seeing what 2024 brings for events, talks and more and will post about everything I'm working on or doing right here!
