New Year, New Job (sort of)
This year will mark a big change, I’ll be working full time at ScreenReach - looking forward to joining the team there full time, have had my eye on the company for a while since the SuperMonday event a couple of years ago when the Difference Engine teams pitched their ideas of which this was one of them, however in the months since the company has grown and in May of 2011 I started working there part-time as a their Windows Phone application developer, this was after another SuperMondays where I was showing off my applications to the people there and within a few days I was having a meeting and the following week started working there as one of the team.
I’d been working for a long time at GreenMetropolis as a web developer and was glad to have got the chance to work there, and have done so for four years plus development jobs were few and far between, these days I’m getting a few offers of work I’m having to turn down as I’m too busy - I’d have given anything to have these years ago, now I have too many things to do, and also find I like being busy.
ScreenReach is going from strength to strength and looks like 2012 will be a great year for the company and I’m glad I’m going to be part of it - I do find it difficult to fit in to any new team and it’s taken me a while to get used to being part of a much larger company - I’m glad to be included in things but my lack of self confidence and motivation sometimes means I feel things are a little tougher for me than they’d otherwise be, and I’ve not been at my best of late, I hope to make the most of the New Year by getting into my work again.
I’m starting to feel a bit more positive and being in the one place may help keep the momentum up - the only downside is having to leave the company I’ve been with for so long, although I’ll be there for a day a week for a while yet but will eventually get to the point where I won’t be there anymore, but having to deal with so many things all at once means at least I’ve had all the bad stuff all at once - very efficient.
Hopefully will get along better with the team as I start to refocus for the New Year and get to know people a little better and they’ll get to know me - I sometimes forget that people don’t know how lacking in confidence I used to have and no social life of any kind, but even they were surprised by my recent extra event attendance!
Being there all the time should help and really is a new start, despite me being there for some time I think that will truly mark me transition to a full member of the team - it’s a great place to work and very exciting time - just seems to have come at the right time, just wish I hadn’t had other things that distracted me from work but got my working life worked out I hope, just need to get my personal life sorted out!
